Working In Australia
There are many different kinds of Australian work visas, designed to accommodate a range of business and cultural needs. A vibrant Australian economy demands skills to be world class and on occasions these can’t be met from within the country.
However, the need for skills has to be balanced with the national interest and the Government’s obligation to develop the skills of the Australian population.
Work Visas
Accordingly, an employer must demonstrate a strong case for bringing a foreign worker into Australia and frankly, this puts off many employers from employing workers from overseas. To generalise, only highly skilled people with proven qualifications and experience, in occupations that are recognised to be in demand in Australia should consider applying for a work visa.
The first requirement is that you have an offer of employment from an Australian employer and that job is either on a list of occupations in demand or covered under an existing arrangement with the Australian Immigration department. Do not be misled! Just because a friend owns a business and says he can give you a job, don’t be fooled – you are unlikely to be granted a work visa.

Permanent Residence Visas
Permanent Residence Visas, under Skilled Migration, are often the most effective way to work in Australia. The principal benefit is the ability to apply for a job, as would any Australian citizen, without the employer having to meet stringent visa restrictions.
Working Holiday Visas
The most popular Australian work visa, and the easiest to get, is the Australian working holiday visa.
